what is this zine?
this zine will be a sfw, pg-13 zine based on monster men and boys.

what sort of artwork is allowed?
we are looking for single page drawings, two page spreads and comics about monster men and boys. any medium is allowed, but if you use traditional mediums please make sure you are able to scan a good quality copy for the zine.

what sort of writing is allowed?
we will be looking for short fiction and poetry about monster men and boys, with a wordcount to be decided on at a later date.

what sort of monsters are allowed?
in short, any sort of monster! the only stipulations are that they identify as a man or boy, and they must be an original rendition. for example, vampires are fine however dracula or other already established vampires are not.

do the monsters have to be more monstrous or more humanoid?
either way is fine! it is totally up to each individual contributor what sort of monster man they want to feature in their work.

can we include multiple monsters in our pieces?
yes!

may we get accepted into multiple roles?
this depends totally on the amount of applications we receive. you may get accepted into multiple roles, but please do not apply for more than you are certain you will be able to complete in the timeframe.

how many artists/writers will be accepted?
tentatively 20-30 artists and around 5 writers will be accepted, although this may change depending on how many people apply and the posititons they apply for.

is this for profit or for chairty?
this will be a charity zine, with proceeds donated to a charity decided on by the contributors

will there be a physical book?
yes! there will be an a5 book (binding style is still to be determined), a merch bundle, as well as a pdf and digital merch.

will contributors get a copy of the zine?
contributors will receive a free copy of the pdf and digital merch created. ideally we would also like to send a zine and merch bundle at no cost, but this depends on how well the zine does in preorders. right now, we will ask contributors to pay for the physical bundle at cost and/or pay for shipping.

guidelines

• The Monster Boy Zine is a SFW zine. Given the subject matter, some blood and body horror is allowed, but nothing too graphic or explicit.

• We would like to keep the zine as varied as possible and will try to avoid an excessive number of portrayals of any particular monster. When you apply, we ask that you keep in mind a few ideas of what you would like to create, and let us know in the designated fields. A form will be set up so that each contributor can see all of the pieces being created. Flexibility here is important; we want to see every sort of monster you can think of!

• Artists retain rights to their artwork; however, they may not post the full piece until the moderators advise them to do so. Posting cropped WIPs on social media is fine, and encouraged, to promote the zine. Please refrain from selling prints of your piece until after zine sales conclude.

• Submitted artwork should be A5 with a bleed of 1/8”, 300dpi resolution, and CMYK to ensure that everything will print correctly. A template will be provided. If you are creating a spread, you must utilize the entire canvas to create an interesting piece.

• Writers have a 1000 word limit, and all font/size/margin formatting will be provided.

• Comic artists will have a limit of four pages.

• Discord use is not mandatory, but it is a highly valuable tool that we recommend making use of. It will allow quick access to the mods and other contributors, as well as provide a community for all who participate! All of the check-in forms will also be posted on discord.

• There will be three check-ins, in which we will require the participants to upload their works-in-progress to a google form. Extensions will be granted, as we understand that sometimes life gets in the way, but you must speak to the mods before the check-in date. Communication is key! If you are unable to complete the check-ins, please know there is a chance that you will get dropped from the zine.

• Pinch hitters will be contacted by 8/15, and will have a month to complete their pieces.
